Vasco John Nunes Obituary
Vasco John Nunes, 83 of Narrows, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 24th, 2015.
He was born in Newark, New Jersey on October 25th, 1931, and was the son of the late Goaquim (Jack) Nunes and Mary Medeiros Nunes.
Vasco served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and was a retired employee of Norfolk and Western Railroad with 23 years of service. He loved working in his flower garden, antiquing, and visiting flea markets, and was loved by his family, friends and neighbors.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 55 years, Barbara Higginbotham Nunes; three children, J. Randal Nunes of Roanoke, Tanya S. Nunes and Robert Ramsey of Narrows, Jack D. Nunes and wife Julie of Ann Arbor, Michigan; four grandchildren, J. Daniel Nunes, Natasha A. Nunes and fiance' Rick Huffman, Benjamin J. Nunes, and Zeb G. Nunes; and two great-grandchildren, Raina G. Nunes and Shane Huffman.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 28th, 2015 at 1 PM in the Chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows with Rev. Bernice Warner officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg with graveside rites conducted by VFW Post # 6000, and American Legion Posts #68, #311 and #145. The family will receive friends at Riffe's Funeral Service Monday from 6 to 8 PM.
