Thomas Meadows Obituary

Thomas Eugene Meadows, 75, of Rich Creek, VA, formerly of Elkton, MD went to be with the Lord Saturday, August 7, 2021, at his home.  Thomas was born on July 26, 1946, in Hinton, WV and was a son of the late Eugene Dowl Meadows and Mary Ellen Willey Meadows.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Mae Meadows Davis and Mary Christine Meadows Chadwick. Thomas grew up Chesapeake, MD and attended Bohemian Manor High School.  He was a U.S. Marine Veteran.  He worked for various companies performing maintenance, driving trucks and retired, driving school buses.  We all have more of an effect on the world than may be obvious.  Tom Meadows had a brain full of knowledge. His formal education may have been minimal, but he was an avid reader and could fix almost anything. He knew something about everything from astronomy to double clutching! He did love history: books, road signs and historic places. He was a Marine and loved America. He lived through a peculiar period of American history that made little sense to him. He had rare, excellent penmanship. He wrote on a variety of subjects. He was very interested in the genealogy, especially of his extensive family.  His last job, as a lowly school bus driver, may have been one of his most important. Twice a day he bussed those children. He knew when they were sad and celebrated with them when glad! He might have been the most stable and dependable adult those children related to every day. They probably still remember him with fondness and love! He has an award pin, from the county he served: A “Safe Driver with No Accidents” reads the pin. At Christmas, they remembered him with gift cards and homemade treats.  He loved Westerns on TV. Horses, cowboys and Indians took him to a past that was an intriguing time in American history and helped to pass the time during a sedentary life that was difficult to bear, towards the end. Perhaps, he also favored the decisive justice meted out with a Remington or revolver. He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Martin Meadows of Rich Creek, three daughters, Trinette Elise Jones (James Tate) of New York, Tammy Elaine Eldreth (Richard) of Maryland, Pauline Williams (Brian) of Fl, three brothers, Arley Austin Meadows (Nancy) of Port Deposit, MD, Teddy James Meadows (Diane) of Florida, Lewis Jackson Meadows (Joyce) of Elkton, MD, two sisters, Audrey Frances Meadows Roark (Donnie) of Lindside, WV, Margaret Ann Meadows Poore (Ronnie) of Carriere, MS, seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren.  Graveside funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at 11am at the North East United Methodist Cemetery in North East, MD with the Rev Chuck Leavering officiating.  The family is being served by Givens – Riffe Funeral Service in Narrows, (540) 726-2442, and online at riffefuneralservice.com.
