Shirley Ann (Robertson) Bowers

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Shirley Ann Robertson Bowers, 89 of Narrows, VA, our loving Mom, Sister, Mammaw, Aunt and friend to all who’s lives she touched.  Shirley was born on February 28, 1932 in Glen Lyn, VA and was a daughter of the late Ira Hugo Robertson and Laura Violet Skeens Robertson.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Walton Bowers, son Larry Ray Bowers and brother Earl Hugo Robertson.  Shirley was born and raised in Glen Lyn and was a graduate of Narrows High School.  Until her health declined and made it impossible, she was active in the life of the church serving the Lord at Glen Lyn Church of Christ.  She retired from Narrows Elementary School where she was one of the special lunch ladies in the cafeteria for over 35 years.  She was a well-known seamstress, loved gardening, working outdoors, singing and worshiping the Lord.  She took pride in her role as “Mammaw Shirley” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a brave soul and protected her family from snakes, mice, bears and bees.  She could dance a “Jig”, her laughter would light up the room and she made the best pound cake and custard.  She is survived by one daughter, DeeDee L. Harless (Jay) of Rich Creek, 3 grandchildren, Kristen Steele (Craig) of Rich Creek, Jeffrey Bowers (Jennifer) of Blacksburg, Lisa White (Kevin) of Pearisburg, 6 great grandchildren, Adaline, Bennett, Emmie, Jude, Jonah and Logan, brother, Dwight E. Robertson (Jacki) of Knoxville, TN, daughter-in-law, Lea Beth Bowers of Rich Creek and special numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  Please join us for a Celebration of Life on Monday, April 26, 2021 at 3pm at the Glen Lyn Church of Christ with Pastor Mike Robertson officiating with burial following in the Davis - Robertson Cemetery, on East River Mountain.  The family will receive friends at the church 2 hours before the service from 1 – 3pm.  We will be observing COVID-19 restrictions, please wear a mask and social distance.  The family is being served by Givens – Riffe Funeral Service in Narrows, (540) 726-2442, and online at riffefuneralservice.com.
