Raymond "Odie" Arlen Martin

Raymond “Odie” Arlen Martin, 87, of Narrows, VA, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Highland Ridge Rehab Center in Dublin.  Odie was born on April 9, 1936, in Narrows and was a son of the late Eldridge Richard Martin and Lillian Frazier Martin.  Besides his parents, he was preceded by his wife of 61years, Shirley Ann Thomas Martin, stepmother, Bessie Martin, 5 brothers, Richard “Buggy” Martin, Dee Martin, Daisy Martin, Joe Martin, Mac Martin and 3 sisters, Katherine “Tootie” Nepstead, Lucile Bell and Beauty Nelson.

Odie grew up in Narrows and was a proud U.S. Army Veteran.  He was a self-employed master carpenter for over 50 years.  He loved his 2 special dogs, Ringeye and Chicky.  He loved to hunt, fish, play checkers and have a good time. 

He is survived by 2 brothers, Bobby Martin (Anna) of Narrows, Pete Martin of Pearisburg, sister, Peggy Fish of Cornelius, NC, half-sister, Opaline Hill of Floyd, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, September 11, 2023, at 2pm at Cornerstone Pentecostal Church in Narrows with Pastor Tony Robertson officiating with burial following in the Angels Rest Cemetery in Narrows.  The family will receive friend, at the church 1 hour before the service from 1 – 2pm.
