Melvin Eugene Thorne, Jr., 65 of Glen Lyn, VA, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 4, 2025.  Melvin was born September 24, 1959, in Baltimore, MD and was a son of the late Melvin Eugene Thorne, Sr. and Joan Kizer Thorne.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen McKenzie Thorne, 2 brothers, Robin “Burt” Thorne and Mike Thorne.  

Melvin was a 1977 graduate of Narrows High School, and graduated New River Community College in Electrical Engineering.  He was employed at ATT, Norfolk and Southern Railroad and retired as a lineman with A.E.P.  He loved spending time with his family and friends. 

He is survived by his son, Matthew McKenzie Thorne of Peterstown, WV, 4 brothers, Mark Thorne (Tina), Chris Thorne (Karen) both of Baltimore, MD, Rocky Thorne (Mitzi) of Rich Creek, Marty Fleeman (Rita) of Rich Creek, 3 sisters, Roxanne Daniels (Alvin), Kathy Gurly, Tammy Tracey (Mike), all of Baltimore, MD, and his furry friend, Chloe.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 10, 2025, at 1pm at the Givens – Riffe Funeral Chapel in Narrows with burial following at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Rich Creek, VA.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home 1 hour before the service, from 12 – 1pm.
