Marjorie Nichols Skidmore Obituary

Marjorie June Nichols Skidmore, 86 of Narrows passed away Tuesday, November 12th, 2013.

She was born in Sinks Grove, West Virginia on March 24th, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Alexander Clifford and Alice Eades Nichols. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Richard Carlton Skidmore; a son, Richard Carlton Skidmore, Jr.; a brother, Alexander Clifford Nichols, Jr.; and two sisters, Virginia Lucille Craig and Pauline Wilkinson.

Marjorie was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Narrows, where she served in many capacities. She also volunteered at Narrows Elementary School, with the Narrows Lions Club, and the Narrows Little League football and basketball programs. She loved cooking, embroidery, and flower gardening. A loving wife, mother and sister, she will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Sandra Richardson and husband Bill of Hardy, Virginia, and Carolyn Lewis and husband Mark of Forest Hill, West Virginia; one sister, Veva Helms and husband Harry of Gap Mills, West Virginia; six brothers, Richard Nichols and wife June of Union, West Virginia, Joe Nichols of Ronceverte, West Virginia, Charles (Pete) Nichols and wife Nancy of Salem, Virginia, Douglas (Johnny) Nichols and wife Linda of Kent's Store, Virginia, Larry Nichols and wife Shirley of Alderson, West Virginia, and Wayne Nichols and special friend Gidget Morris of Indiana; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Michael McMahon and the staff of Carilion Giles Community Hospital, and Carilion Hospice Services-New River Valley and Debra Jones, RN, for the care given to Marjorie during her illness.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 15th, 2013 at 1 PM at First Presbyterian Church in Narrows with Rev. Shirley Larson officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Riffe's Funeral Service Thursday from 6 to 8 PM.
