Linda (Hurst) Lester

Linda Hurst Lester of Hayes, VA went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at her home.  Linda was born on September 5, 1941 in Parrot, VA and was the daughter of the late Linden Hurst and Ruth Edwards Hurst Mills.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Jess Thomas Lester, Jr., her brothers Blake Hurst, David Hurst and sister Joan Shrader. 

Linda grew up in the Park Drive –In Theater owned and operated by her parents and was a graduate of Pearisburg High School.  She was a devoted wife and stay at home mother until her children started school.  She found her joy in working with the Kindergarten class at Warwick River Christian School until her retirement in June 1998.  She also enjoyed crafts and worked for many years selling her creations.  Her biggest joy in life was her family, immediate-extended-chosen.  She loved unconditionally and gave the best hugs.  She always had a listening ear and offered the best advise without judgment.  She was the neighborhood mom to anyone who needed her and there was always room for one more at the table.  She loved to host her family and made sure we were all together for those special occasions or just dinner on a Sunday.  After retirement, they fulfilled their life long dream of living on the water in Hayes, Va.  Linda loved boat rides and fishing, but truth be told she did most of the catching!  Linda was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her and will be truly missed.

She is survived by one daughter, Susan L. Scott (Preston) of Yorktown, two sons, Jon A. Lester (Sis) of Woodbridge, T. Michael Lester (Brenda) of VA Beach, nine grandchildren, Austin, Jessica, Stephen (Cassie), Erin, Rachel (Antonio), Drew, Mac, Izzi, Suki, one great grandson, Jacob, brother Wayne Hurst and countless nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the Givens – Riffe Funeral Chapel in Narrows with the Rev Douglas Armstrong officiating with burial following in the Fairview Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at Givens - Riffe Funeral Service 1 hour before the service from 1 - 2.
