Janet Doris Blankenship Martin, 77 of Rocky Gap, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 13th, 2014 at her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Glen Lyn, Virginia on November 1st, 1937, and was the daughter of the late Drew Cephas and Gladys Mae Meadows Blankenship. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Martin, Jr., a daughter, Judy Mae Martin; a son, Jerry Lee Martin; four brothers, Dailey Blankenship, Leonard Blankenship, Timmy Blankenship, and Cephas Blankenship; and one sister, Scarlett Rebecca Neal.
She was a retired employee of Bland County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bastian, Virginia, where she worked for many years as a cook. Traveling and cooking were her passions. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, she will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.
Left to cherish her memory are four daughters, Dorcas Martin of Peterstown, Debra Catron and husband Everett of Rocky Gap, Rena Gaye Handy of Forest Hill, West Virginia, and Tina Marie Shultz of Rocky Gap; two sons, Robbie Lee Martin and wife Brenda Sue of Princeton, and Terry Dean Martin and wife Anna Marie of Princeton; one grandson raised as a son, Douglas Leon Martin; many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; one sister, Sandra Diane Herring of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; three brothers, Cloyd Blankenship and wife Betty of Bastian, Floyd Truman Blankenship of Greenville, West Virginia, and Rondle Blankenship of Greenville, West Virginia; and two terrific friends, Marvin Eugene Long of Peterstown and Johnny Gill of Forest Hill.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 17th, 2014 at 12 noon in the Chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows with Pastor Daniel Bradley officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows. The family will receive friends at Riffe's Funeral Chapel Wednesday from 11 AM until just prior to the service.
