Harless "Benny" Benton Johnson, Jr.

Harless “Benny” Benton Johnson, Jr. 82 of Narrows, VA went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 6, 2022, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.  Benny was born on May 27, 1940, in Bluefield, WV and was the son of the late Harless Benton Johnson, Sr and Gladys Hopkins Johnson.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Iris Jeanette Wills Johnson and one sister, Jody Johnson.  Benny was a proud graduate of Narrows High School Class of 1959 and a member of the First Christian Church in Narrows.  He was a retired employee of the Celanese Corp. in Narrows and served his community as a councilman for the Town of Narrows for 24 years, was a member of the Giles County Board of Supervisors and a member of the Giles County Planning Commission Board. Benny’s passions in life were the company of his family and friends, spending time at the family cabin, Drumming Grouse Lodge and his trips to Myrtle Beach eating endless seafood.  He is survived by two sons, Michael Wade Johnson (Donna) of Stuarts Draft, Harless Benton (Ben) Johnson, III (Kristie) of White Gate, 4 Grandchildren, Erin Johnson, Kamron Johnson, Sierra J. Meadows (Levi), Ryan Johnson (Shana) and 2 great grandchildren, Ruby and Rosalee Johnson.  Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 9, 2022, at 2pm at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Narrows with Charles Henderson officiating with burial following in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows.  The family will receive friends at the First Christian Church 2 hours before the service from 12 – 2 pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church, P.O.
