Florine Josephine Michel Ballard, 91 of Pearisburg, VA and formerly of Portia, AR went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at Heritage Hall Rich Creek.  Mrs. Ballard was born on April 6, 1928 in Donaldsonville, LA and was a daughter of the late Florian Joseph Michel and Myrtle Louise Landry.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, George Newton Ballard.  Mrs. Ballard was a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict.  She also worked as a teacher at a Catholic School, was a homemaker and a devoted worker for the Catholic Faith.  She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Danette and Darrin Light of Narrows and two grandsons, Cody Light and Hunter Light of Giles County.  As per her wishes, she was cremated and will not have any local service.  She will be buried beside her husband in Arkansas.  The family is being served by Givens-Riffe Funeral Service in Narrows, (540) 726-2442, and online at riffefuneralservice.com.
