Betty Lou (Fox) Gupton

Betty Lou Fox Gupton, 82 of Culpeper, VA, another angel has gone to be with the Lord God, on Friday, January 8, 2021 from Country View Assisted Living in Peterstown, WV.  Betty was born on November 25, 1938 in Culpeper, VA and was a daughter of the late Charles Manuel Fox and Sarah Clara Fox.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin Gupton.  Betty was retired from VDOT and she was the first female Utility Engineer Specialist in Virginia.  She was also instrumental in passing legislation to remove smoking from public spaces in the state of Virginia.  She was a lifetime member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.  She was also a volunteer with the Civil Air Patrol and a member of the Women’s Auxilary of the American Legion.  She is survived by one daughter, Estelle Gupton Wade (Glen) of Narrows, one son, Lee Charles Gupton (Janine Elizabeth) of Fredericksburg, VA, three grandchildren, Clarence W. Hawkins, Sr., Courtney McGuire, Angela Roop and five great grandchildren, Amber Hawkins, Zackary Hawkins, Clarence W. Hawkins, Jr., Stephen Roop, Mary Roop and one great great grandchild, Zoe Roop.   She loved them a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.  Funeral services will be conducted, Friday, January 15, 2021 at 2pm at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Culpeper with the Rev. Jessica Darty and Pastor Timothy Weedon of Truer Worship Ministry officiating with burial following in the Fairview Cemetery in Culpeper, VA.    Memorial donations may be made to St. Luke’s Church, diabetes or a cancer fund of your choice.  The family is being served by Givens – Riffe Funeral Service in Narrows, (540) 726-2442, and online at riffefuneralservice.com
