Barbara (Neely) Burts

Barbara Neely Burts of Easley, South Carolina went to her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 9, 2023.

Born in Pearisburg, Virginia, she was a daughter to the late Carl Jasper Neely and Bessie Mae Neely.  In addition, she was preceded in death by her daughter Anna Guynn, husband Marvin Burts, brother and sister – in – law Billy Neely (Clydis) and brother - in - law Tommy Tickle.

Barbara was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend.  She spent a large part of her life living in South Carolina raising her family and working until retirement.  One of her most enjoyed activities was spending time with her family.  She loved being outside in her yard enjoying the sun, garden and flowers.

In 1964, she graduated from Narrows High School where she was a trumpet player, majorette, and cheerleader.  She worked for the State of Virginia as a social worker and a real estate agent.  While raising three children, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Clemson University.  After 32 years of loyal and devoted service at Clemson University, she retired as a Computer Programmer Analyst.  In addition, Barbara participated in the Civil Rights Movement in Starkville, Mississippi promoting equality and mainstreaming children into public schools.

Barbara was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her husband Lester Spangler, daughters Karen Guynn Harbin (Brian), Laura Guynn Ward (Andy Nix), step - son Cliff Burts, grandsons William Holman and John Harbin, sister Loretta Tickle, nephews Jason Tickle, Michael Tickle Sr. and Randall Neely (Larry) , great niece Michelle Tickle, great nephew Michael Tickle Jr. and her precious canine Lovee who was always by her side.

Visitation will be held from 1:30pm – 2:45pm Wednesday February 15, 2023, prior to the service at 3:00pm at Robinson Funeral Home – Powdersville Rd, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley, SC 29642.

In addition, a visitation will be held from 1:00pm – 2:00 pm on Friday February 17, 2023 prior to the service at Givens - Riffe Funeral Service; 600 Main Street; Narrows, Virginia 24124.  Burial will follow the service at Birchlawn Cemetery in Pearisburg, Virginia.
