A special tribute by Robert Simpson from his biological and loving father/caretaker to ‘Alexander the Great’ Edmund Frederick Simpson.

My son, Alex, recently passed at 21 years old. If anyone deserves a 21-gun salute it is Alex. Alex could never talk, but almost until his last breath he could still walk. Further, he used to be a ‘runner’ because he used to be able to run, like the day he ran away from home in Bluefield Va., only to be saved by the Bluefield Va. Police Department. Two miles straight, in and out of traffic, non-stop. Alex always had ‘guardian angels’ that would protect my ‘little buddy’ who had life- long Autism Spectrum Disorder, that day it was the BPD, on many other occasions it was someone else. Then there were the  day(s) his sister, Savannah Simpson, ‘’‘his full-time ‘guardian angel’’ shrieked and yelled and ‘set off an alarm bell’”’ when Alex ran away from our home, that alerted me like the sound of any emergency siren or alarm would, that Alex was in trouble, and despite our extra safety measures, like double-sided dead-bolt locks on our exterior doors, he could always, somehow, ‘pounce’ on every opportunity when we turned our back or forgot to lock something and etc., and he would ‘run down the road’ running full speed ahead.

Nothing could get in his way, and certainly nothing or no one could ‘stop’ him and thank God nothing ever did get in his way. Alex was never able to talk, so there are unknown pleasantries, but also ‘horrors’, that Alex did experience that can and never will be told.  Since Alex could not talk, I have always ‘said’ my family and I ‘will talk for him’. Thank you for all those people who did treat Alex right, and we forgive those who did not treat him ‘right’, or to put it ‘blunt’ and straight to the point ‘wronged him’. I know that ‘there are Angels among us because my son Alex Simpson, was and is still is, an ‘Angel sent down from Heaven somewhere above’. A special thanks to educators like Cathy Webb and Sharon Farmer, and many others, of the Giles County, Va., School System, and many others from all the various places Alex lived at who also were ‘guardian angels’ of Alex’s, because not all persons were, but they probably did not understand, and some just didn’t care. Like I said, my family and I, have always spoken for Alex, and have and will continue to speak out for Alex, somebody almost always had too, of course,

Alexander Edmund Frederick Simpson’s Funeral celebration, a celebration that might seem like for a short term on this Earth, but nothing with Alex ever fit the ‘norm’, because it was a long time for Alex and for us, given all the times previously he had fought and been able to survive when he had been in past experiences that nearly put him on ‘Death’s door step’.

There are no words to describe how much we will miss Alex, just like Alex never really could never ever speak ‘really’ speak ‘words’. However, wherever Alex E.F. Simpson went “people heard him or about him’ even if they did not, or could not know, what he said, they still would try or even had to LISTEN.

I thank the Great and Good Lord for the almost 22 years that he let us have with Alex here on Earth, and I sure hope to see him in Heaven, because I know he will be there, whether I make it there or not. May God Bless and take care of Alex in Heaven, just like someone always had to do for him here on Earth,

I would be remiss to not point out the help and assistance that Melton Mortuary and Cremation Center  in Beckley, West Virginia, especially Jack David Woodrum, who on his own fruition helped us with the difficult process and may God continue to assist him in his further quest to be a public servant to West Virginians, like to us for example, in just the short time we can be proud to say, even if some don’t like it or accept it, for whatever reason, West (By God), but also SW( By God), Virginians.
